Explore at your own pace
Choose what sounds fun, invite a few relatives, or keep the day completely open. Unless an activity is listed in the hosted schedule, admission, transportation, reservations, and other costs are each guest’s responsibility.
Gardens · All ages
Explore expansive gardens, woodland paths, waterfront scenery, and the larger-than-life Guardians of the Seeds trolls. Allow at least a few hours.
Family boat outing
Ride out together on family boats to explore Maine’s second-oldest surviving lighthouse, the keeper’s buildings, and the island’s walking trail. Access is by boat or kayak only and is weather-dependent.
Marine life · Great for children
A compact, hands-on introduction to Gulf of Maine animals, including local fish and invertebrates. Parking is limited, and groups of 15 or more must arrange a reservation.
Mini golf · Ice cream
Play an 18-hole nautical-themed course, then visit the shell museum, arcade, or Ice Cream Hut. An easy choice for a mixed-age family group.
Trains · Living history
Spend a few hours exploring 35 acres of Maine history, historic buildings, antique vehicles, and a narrow-gauge train ride around the museum grounds.
Waterfront · Free
A relaxed public park on Lewis Cove with lawn, rocky shoreline, swimming, picnic tables, and a pavilion. Return on your own for a quieter visit beyond Wednesday’s reunion picnic.
Beach · Southport Island
Enjoy a small sandy town beach with views toward privately owned Hendricks Head Lighthouse. Pair it with the adjacent easy half-mile woodland loop. Parking and facilities are limited.
Shopping · Free to explore
Stroll the historic footbridge, watch the working harbor, and browse downtown shops and galleries. This is the easiest flexible outing to shorten or extend.
Easy nature outing · Free
Try the universal-access trail, children’s Story Trail, natural playground, and nature center at this Boothbay Region Land Trust preserve.
